  1.         $TOKTRAX INSTALLATION
  2.         ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
  3.         $TOKTRAX 4 is normally distributed electronically (via GEnie,
  4.         CompuServe, etc.) as STX42A.ZIP and STX42B.ZIP. Please read the
  5.         next section if you are UPGRADING from an old version.
  6.  
  7.         Diskette distribution uses 4 self-extracting files -
  8.         $TOKMAIN.EXE, $TOKUTIL.EXE, $TOKDOCS.EXE, and $TOKSAMP.EXE - plus
  9.         an INSTALL procedure.
  10.  
  11.         If you're installing from the STX42A.ZIP and STX42B.ZIP files,
  12.         PKUNZIP will extract the files mentioned above. You'll need
  13.         about 2 megabytes of free disk space during installation.
  14.  
  15.         You should next run the INSTALL procedure by typing "INSTALL",
  16.         followed by the FULL directory path in which $tokTraX is to be
  17.         installed; for example:    INSTALL C:\$TOKTRX4
  18.         This directory will be created on drive C: and you will be asked
  19.         if you want to continue installation after each step of the
  20.         procedure.
  21.  
  22.         After all the files are extracted and placed in the designated
  23.         directory, the install procedure will move to that directory and
  24.         automatically execute $ETUP.
  25.  
  26.         Normally the $TOKTRAX data (.STK) files should be placed in the
  27.         same directory, although they can be located in a sub-directory
  28.         such as C:\$TOKTRX4\DATA (this is not recommended for novices).
  29.  
  30.         **************************** IMPORTANT ***************************
  31.         Regardless how $TOKTRAX is installed on your system, when you
  32.         run it for the first time or change the data directory, be sure
  33.         to use $ETUP to insure that the default settings - ESPECIALLY THE
  34.         DATA DIRECTORY - are defined properly.
  35.         **************************** IMPORTANT ***************************
  36.  
  37.         After $tokTraX 4 is installed, you can reclaim some disk space by
  38.         deleting the STX42x.ZIP, $TOKMAIN.EXE, $TOKUTIL.EXE, $TOKDOCS.EXE
  39.         and $TOKSAMP.EXE files if they were copied to your hard disk.
  40.         I do recommend that backups first be made. There are also several
  41.         sample (.SAM) files that can be deleted if you don't need them.
  42.         The list on the following page indicates which files absolutely
  43.         MUST be on your disk for all of the $TOKTRAX features to work
  44.         correctly.

  46.         UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF $TOKTRAX

  49.         If you are already using an older version of $toktrax, the
  50.         enhancements and bug fixes that have been added since you
  51.         installed your current copy are listed at the end of this file.
  52.  
  53.         As with any new software release, it is always advisable to
  54.         first backup your present system - particularly the DEF, STK,
  55.         FOL and DIV data files.
  56.  
  57.         Note that if you try to install the new version into the same
  58.         directory as an old release, the extraction routine will prompt
  59.         you each time before overwriting the older file. For this
  60.         reason, it would probably be best to install version 4.2 to an
  61.         entirely new directory, and then copy your data files into that
  62.         directory.
  63.  
  64.         For example, if your old installation is in C:\STX4, and the new
  65.         release is installed in C:\STX42, the correct commands to copy
  66.         your data files would be:
  67.

  69.                                 CD \STX42
  70.                                 COPY C:\STX4\*.STK
  71.                                 COPY C:\STX4\*.FOL
  72.                                 COPY C:\STX4\*.DIV
  73.  
  74.         You can also copy your $TOKTRAX.DEF file to the new directory if
  75.         you want to keep all of your default settings. If you do so, BE
  76.         SURE TO RE-RUN $ETUP AND ENTER THE CORRECT DATA PATH!!!

  78.         When you're confident that the new version is working properly,
  79.         you can delete all of the files in the old directory - AFTER
  80.         backing them up to floppy disk or tape, of course!
  81.

  87.         extracted from each set are described below.  Asterisks (*) indicate
  88.         files required for ALL $tokTraX features to work correctly.
